BIG SIGNAL CQ-2
Real 2-meter performance. Compact, efficient, and ready for anything.
Discover the CQ series by BIG SIGNAL—high-efficiency cubical antennas designed for maximum performance in discreet or space-limited installations.
The BIG SIGNAL CQ-2 is a single-element monoband antenna optimized for 145 MHz (2 meters). Its near-omnidirectional pattern allows for operation in either vertical or horizontal polarization, making it a highly versatile choice for any VHF application.
Perfect for terrestrial contacts, satellite reception, repeaters, beacons, portable operations, balconies, or indoor setups, thanks to its compact size and high-efficiency electrical design.
Why choose the CQ-2 over a traditional vertical antenna?
• Full-wave operation on 2 meters
No coils, traps, or tuning devices—just pure, uncompromised efficiency across the entire band.
• Low-noise reception
Its closed-loop design significantly reduces QRN and urban interference, helping you pick up weak signals other antennas miss.
• Ultra-compact and low-profile
At just 70 cm (27 inches) total length, it blends into any environment and is built to withstand high winds. Ideal for limited-space installations or HOA-restricted areas.
• Satellite-ready
Thanks to its high-angle radiation pattern and minimal polarization shift, it's excellent for satellite communications—even at low passes.
• Less fading, more stability
The quad structure offers superior resistance to polarization mismatch, resulting in less QSB and stronger, more consistent signals in SSB, FT8, FM DX, and more.
• Rugged, maintenance-free construction
Built with durable materials to handle harsh environments with zero upkeep required.
• Quick & easy setup
Fully assembled in under 5 minutes, with no tools or fine-tuning needed. Just mount and go.

BIG SIGNAL CQ-2 ? My First Ham Radio Antenna
As a newly licensed ham operator, I was eager to get on the air, and the BIG SIGNAL CQ-2 became my first antenna choice. I mounted it just 20 cm above my roofline in Dubai, and I must say, it has exceeded my expectations.
With current tropospheric ducting conditions in the Middle East, I was thrilled to hear mobile stations in Muscat, Oman, a staggering 350 km away with a signal report of 5-9! The 2-meter QSOs are impressively clear, and my signal reports confirm that I am being heard just as well.
One of the most surprising aspects of this antenna is the amazing noise floor. At first, I thought something was wrong because I was getting zero noise, a rare experience in urban environments. However, incoming signals were loud and crystal clear, proving that the antenna is doing its job efficiently.
For a compact and lightweight omnidirectional antenna, the CQ-2 is proving to be a fantastic choice for my setup. Whether you're a beginner like me or an experienced ham looking for a great portable or base station option, this antenna is definitely worth considering. You can also install it as a directional antenna.
Pros:
- Excellent RX/TX performance even at a low mounting height
- Extremely low noise floor
- Clear 2m QSOs over long distances
- Lightweight, very small and easy to install
The BIG SIGNAL 4BS-2 is still waiting to be built as I'm waiting for the rotor to be delivered. Looking forward to working that one as a directional antenna.
So far, I'm more than satisfied with the BIG SIGNAL CQ-2. I look forward to testing it in different conditions and seeing what else it can do!
