BIG SIGNAL 2BS-20
2-element full-wave Cubical Quad for DX on 14 MHz / 20 meters
The BIG SIGNAL 2BS-20 is a 2-element full-wave monoband directional antenna specifically developed for operators looking to get the most from the 14 MHz / 20-meter band while keeping the overall structure within manageable dimensions.
Its closed-loop configuration and horizontal polarization combine gain, directivity and an excellent signal-to-noise ratio, making it a particularly attractive alternative to conventional Yagi antennas for DX, contesting and weak-signal operation.
Band: 14 MHz / 20 meters
Type: monoband directional Cubical Quad
Elements: 2 full-wave loops
Polarization: horizontal
Gain: 7.4 dBi free space
F/B ratio: 18.01 dB
Turning radius: 13.71 ft (4.18 m)
Recommended use: DX / contesting / weak-signal / base stations
Why Choose the BIG SIGNAL 2BS-20?
• Two full-wave elements
The 2BS-20 uses two closed full-wave loops specifically optimized for 14 MHz. This architecture provides excellent electrical efficiency without relying on loading coils, traps or shortened radiating elements.
• 7.4 dBi from just 11.42 ft (3.48 m) of boom
One of the key strengths of the 2BS-20 is its excellent gain-to-boom-length ratio. Its two elements provide 7.4 dBi of free-space gain with a boom length of only 11.42 ft (3.48 m).
• Clean reception for weak signals
Its closed-loop geometry, combined with horizontal polarization and a directional radiation pattern, can help provide a favorable signal-to-noise ratio in the presence of certain types of electrical interference, particularly useful for stations located in urban environments.
• Designed for DX on 20 meters
The combination of gain, horizontal polarization and directivity is especially well suited for long-distance communications. Its radiation pattern helps concentrate transmitted and received energy toward the desired direction and make better use of propagation openings on 14 MHz.
• Strong performance at practical installation heights
Cubical Quad antennas are particularly attractive when very tall support structures are not available. The 2BS-20 is designed to provide an excellent balance of installation height, radiation angle and DX performance.
• Directivity and rear rejection
With an 18.01 dB front-to-back ratio, the antenna helps reduce signals and interference arriving from the rear, making it easier to copy weak stations in the desired direction.
• Only 13.71 ft (4.18 m) turning radius
Despite operating on the 20-meter band with full-wave elements, the 2BS-20 maintains a turning radius of only 13.71 ft (4.18 m), making installation easier on towers where rotational clearance is limited.
• Lightweight for a 20-meter directional antenna
At approximately 30.9 lb (14 kg), its construction is designed to provide mechanical strength without adding unnecessary load to the mast, tower or rotator system.
• Simple installation with no complex adjustments
Its mounting system is designed to simplify installation and allow quick commissioning, providing a dedicated 14 MHz solution for high-performance DX stations.
A Different Approach from the Traditional Yagi
The BIG SIGNAL 2BS-20 takes advantage of closed full-wave elements to deliver a dedicated DX antenna that combines gain, clean reception and manageable dimensions for the 20-meter band.
• 2 full-wave elements.
• 7.4 dBi free-space gain.
• 18.01 dB front-to-back ratio.
• Only 11.42 ft (3.48 m) of boom.
• Turning radius of just 13.71 ft (4.18 m).
• Favorable signal-to-noise performance.
